Historical Figure: Moctezuma II
Journal:
tanferoz
Goes by: Esperanza (Ranza) Moctezuma
Birthday: August 21
Age: 29
Occupation: technically unemployed, but somehow money keeps coming in.
Background: Ranza was born to her fifteen year old mother in Mexico City in the end of one hot, long summer. She was her mother's second child, and Ranza and her older brother Juan Carlos were especially close all though their childhood. Money was hard on the family, due to a father missing completely from their lives and their mother's propensity to having more and more children. By the time Ranza was sixteen, she was taking care of her four younger brother and sisters while Juan Carlos worked odd jobs in town. Late one night, as Ranza was feeding one of the babies that had woken up, mother nowhere to be found, Juan Carlos talked his sister into running away with him. He'd met some friends with work for him in Juarez, close to the United States border, and he was willing to take Ranza with him. They argued all night about their duty to their mother versus duty to themselves, but finally Ranza allowed herself to be talked into leaving with him. They left the next day and never looked back.
In Juarez, Juan Carlos had fallen in with la eme, and due to his ruthless nature, quickly rose through the ranks. He was respected and feared, and this respect and fear also translated to Ranza, who thrived on it. For once in her life she was not living hand to mouth. Juan Carlos was killed by border patrol when Ranza was eighteen, caught talking a young boy into smuggling cocaine into the United States. Immediately Ranza, who had been pursued by several men in the gang, married the one with the most potential as she saw it. They had two children, a young boy and a baby girl by the time she was twenty.
Ranza received United States citizenship with the marriage and so traveled around the southwest with her husband, as he too climbed rank with la emes. Her husband was arrested for tax fraud when Ranza was twenty five, and transferred out of southern California where they lived to a prison in Windsor. Ranza followed him with their children. In Windsor, she immediately took over the la eme sector there, and currently rules it with an iron fist, supposedly on instructions from her jailed husband.
Personality: Ranza, quite literally, is one fierce bitch. She's absolutely ruthless and uncompromising, will use every advantage she has to get what she wants. Ranza lacks any real education beyond eighth grade, but she's got a sharp mind and an even sharper tongue. She has expensive tastes in everything, and tells people the money comes from her husband's family, when really it is all drug money. Ranza's one weak point is her children, and she softens considerably when dealing with them, especially Juan Carlos, but is not above smacking them if she decides they need it.
Important Details: Two children, Juan Carlos age 11 and Adrianna age 9. Visits her husband in prison every other Saturday. Is a rather impeccable fist fighter. Has been known to break the limbs of insubordinates herself with ease and without remorse. Calls everyone chico/a.
